Neha Balachandran is a self-taught, Deaf photographer from Dayton, Ohio. She moved to Washington, D.C. for college where she obtained 3 degrees: a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, and two Master's in Deaf Education and International Development from Gallaudet University. She decided to get back into photography during the Pandemic. Before Neha's focus was nature; then, she discovered that she really loved capturing the emotions from people. So she decided to do portraits, editorial photography. Unexpectedly, she got so much support from her family and the deaf community that she established her business, Jeevan Portraits and has traveled across the nation for clients. Neha also hosts accessible photography retreats for deaf photographers where they can build their portfolio and network. Neha's goal with her photography is to highlight BIPOC, marginalized groups and represent them in media. She noticed growing up that South Asian (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc), people with disabilities were beyond misrepresented and overlooked in media. That realization became the catalyst for her passion and determination to change that using photography.
